Key Factors in Email Deliverability

Why do some emails arrive and others go MIA?

Deliverability isn’t random, it’s earned. Sender reputation is your domain’s email ‘credit score’. Senders with a bad rep get sent to the spam folder. Reputation is built on how recipients interact with your emails, if they engage/ignore/delete/complain, if your domain is authenticated, your sending practices, your email content and list quality.

Engagement

Opens, clicks, replies. Low engagement or high spam complaints send negative signals to Gmail, Outlook, etc., that your emails are a nuisance, persona non grata.

Authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)

The tech trifecta that proves you are who you claim. Without proper email authentication, mailbox providers treat you like stranger danger.

Sending practices

Blast 10,000 emails at once from a cold IP and you’ll get throttled or blocked. Timing, frequency, and warming up your sending domain are too important to be ignored.

Content & spam triggers

If your email looks like spam or screams ‘FREE MONEY!!!’, then filters will notice. Poor grammar, spammy keywords, too many links or images all can hurt. The exact same email, changed just for names and maybe a tailored first sentence, being sent out to every recipient is clearly not a transactional email. The ISPs are watching. A well-crafted hyper-personalized email doesn’t suffer from these issues.

List quality

A clean, engaged list is a goldmine. A bloated list full of dead addresses and disinterested folks will drag you down fast.

Every one of these levers can tip the scales between inbox and spam folder. The good news is that you can control them.
